We’re growing an oasis by and for Claymont residents.

In Claymont, Delaware pride is homegrown. From our community’s work sixty years ago to ensure that every student gets a quality education to the efforts of today’s neighborhood leaders, we know how to nurture new opportunity for ourselves.

Together with the Claymont Coalition for Environmental Justice (CC4EJ), we’re bringing that same spirit. We seek to transform our area’s vacant green land into an oasis of food, learning, jobs, and healing. We aim to create places in Claymont that are all our own where we can come together and be for each other — whether you’re old or young, long-timer or newcomer, building your future or getting your life back on track.

The Claymont Grows initiative is a project that puts power into the hands of residents—starting from the ground up. Birthed from the dreams of residents back at a 2017 community meeting, Claymont Grows is a vision for healthy and abundant spaces for us, by us.

Proposed Programs

Claymont Grows is more than green space. CC4EJ seeks to engage, connect, train, build and restore through four key programs:

The Claymont Grows Garden

Learn to grow delicious, nutritious food right here in Claymont! Get inspired to become the next generation of urban farmers.

Green Futures

Create a healthier Claymont by learning about planting native trees & wildflowers that support clean air and defend against flooding. Attend seasonal workshops and year-round neighborhood clean-up days.

Seed to Skill

Build a career in green space management and skilled environmental trades along with resume support and employer partnerships.
